UPGRADE / FORMAT HARD DRIVE

WARNING: The following procedure should be performed by a professional.
Laptop World is NOT liable for any loss of data or any damage to hardware or software that might arise from this procedure.

Keep your Laptop running well. Upgrade or Format the hard drive (Wipe Disk Clean)
and Reinstall / Upgrade your operating system.
The reason why we suggest this is over time programs and files grow and slow down the speed of your unit. Before long your laptop is taking twice as long to do the same job.

  • BACK UP all important files, Documents, Photos etc. If you don't, any files on the hard
drive will be gone for good after the hard drive is formatted.
  • Use a USB memory thumb drive / Network / CD-RW or 2.5" to 3.5" IDE Hard drive adaptor
(to use your Laptop drive in any Desktop computer) to make a backup.
  • Use a Boot Disk or Bootable CD-Rom to format your hard drive (eg format c:/s/u)
then reinstall your Operating System from the Recovery
    CDs or Disks.
  • We recommend you change your hard drive if Bad Blocks are present after formating,
because the hard drive will not be stable and you could lose Data.
  • USED LAPTOP CHECKLIST

  • Check the underside of your laptop.
Has the laptop been dropped, corners crushed?
Are any screws missing from the base?
Missing screws may cause broken hinges and case damage.
  • Is the Serial No./Asset Tag intact?
  • Turn the laptop upside down a few times and listen for loose screws.
A loose screw can damage a whole mainboard.
  • Does the laptop power up from the battery?
  • Check the display for any coloured lines, blocks or flickers.
If you see any, a replacement display is probably needed.
  • The hard drive should not grind, clunk or make loud noises.
If it does, a replacement drive is needed.
  • Check that all drives work and are in good condition. (Eg: CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD, FDD.)
  • Check the power cord and the AC adaptor. Make sure it's not broken or frayed.
If it's broken or frayed, it needs to be replaced.
  • ARE LAPTOPS RELIABLE?

Once a laptop is refurbished properly it should be a joy to use and work for many years.
